L. David (“Dave”) Tracy, 76, Burley, died suddenly on Feb. 15, 2024 in Burley, Idaho.
He was born on March 15, 1947 at Rupert, ID, to Herbert Lester Tracy and Dorothy Valae Catmull.
He attended Minidoka County schools, but graduated from the American high school of the Philippines because his father accepted an assignment to construct the first chapel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines.
Dave was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities including, full-time missionary to Northern Mexico, counselor in the bishopric, primary teacher and financial ward clerk.
He attended Brigham Young University majoring in Spanish and later changing it to Law Enforcement. While in college he raced at the Suntana Raceway in Springville, UT. He joined the Army National Guard and completed basic training in Ft. Knox, Kentucky..
He married Pam Curtis in 1974 and they had three wonderful children. They later divorced.
He was hired as a new police officer by the Burley Police Department in 1975. He loved the 29 years he served in law enforcement.
He married Tami Austin in 1985 and they have five awesome children.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Ryan Curtis Tracy, Tacoma, WA; Garrett David Tracy, Logan, UT; three daughters, Megan Valae Meeker, Nampa, ID; Vanessa Nicole Allred (Tanner), Heyburn, ID; Kennedee Ann Tracy, Burley, ID; 14 grandchildren; one great grandson; and one sister Charlane Lucardie (Oscar), UT.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dustin Tyler and Brandon David Tracy; one daughter, Crystal Ann Tracy; and one sister Cheryle Valae Baker.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 22nd at the Burley 4th ward chapel. 515 E. 16th Street. Interment will be in the Minidoka Acequia Rupert Cemetery. Friends may call at Morrison Payne Funeral Home, 321 E, Main Street, Burley from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21 and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
