Helen C Haynes

Jul. 1, 1922 - Aug. 21, 2016

Date of Service: Aug. 25, 2016

Helen C Haynes Helen C Haynes passed away at her home Sunday, August 21, 2016 due to heart complications. She was born on July 1, 1922 in Macintosh, South Dakota to Jacob Bertsch and Katy DeWald. In about 1936 she moved from South Dakota to Idaho (Acequia) and later North of Paul where she attended a country school. While growing up she worked different jobs in the Paul area including housekeeping for different people, picking potatoes and hoeing beets. In her younger years near the beginning of the 2nd World War she moved to California where she worked in an airplane plant as a "Rosie the Riveter." She then began work as a trolley operator in the Los Angeles area. While there she met a man, Ed Sumrow, who became her first husband. She later worked at Ralph's Supermarket in the meat department. In 1959 they adopted Terri. In 1964 she and Terri moved back to Idaho where she became a waitress at White Towers. She later divorced Ed and while working at the cafe she met the love of her life Lynn Haynes who she married on July 24, 1967. They were married for 49 years. In 1971 she started working at West Minico as a cook, where she worked for 21 years before retiring in 1992. In 1997 she gained her first great-grandchild Dakota. She spent the next three years taking care of Dakota; teaching him to read and write before doing the same in 2001 when her second great grandchild, Aubrey, was born. Her third and final great grandchild Dominique was born in 2003. Helen's greatest joy in life was her family. She spent most of her days spoiling her family, always making sure they were well fed, from painting her grandson Eric's fingernails pink, to making Cream of Wheat on Christmas morning. Helen never hesitated to go out of her way to take care of her family. There was never a day that passed where she was not kind and patient with everyone she knew, and there was never a sacrifice too great for her if it meant taking care of her grandkids, children. They meant the world to her and she would never hesitate to give the shirt off her back (or the food off her plate) if it meant the kids were happy and taken care of. She gave every ounce of love she had to her family, and they considered it a privilege to be given such a wonderful and loving grandma. She will be dearly missed by all, and everyone whose hearts she touched over the years will carry her memory with them forever.

Helen is survived by her husband Lynn Haynes, daughter Terri Robbins, grandchildren Lacie Sabala and Eric and Tiffany Robbins and her three great grandchildren Dakota, Aubrey and Dominique as well as her brothers Delbert and Ruben and sisters Edna and Esther. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Blondie and Bert, sisters, Hilda and Alma and son in law Douglas Robbins.
