Date of Service: Mar. 28, 2015
RUPERT IDAHO --- Dale H. Butler age 87, passed away Friday March 20, 2015, at Valley Vista Assisted Living Community northeast of Rupert.
Dale was born August 10, 1927 in Acequia Idaho as the 7th child of Horace Calvin Butler and Ida Rebecca Goold Butler. He grew up on their family farm just north of Acequia Idaho.
After returning from military service and serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the (Northern States Mission) Michigan & Illinois area, he married his sweetheart Verla Feigh Noble in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 4, 1950. They began their lives together living on the farm next to his father's farm north of Acequia.
His plans to attend college were put on permanent hold when at age 23 he was called to serve as the Bishop of the Acequia Ward. While he was serving as Bishop the homesteaders began developing farmland in the desert north of Acequia causing a huge influx of wonderful families that became our friends. Dale served in many LDS church callings and had a long and successful career as a volunteer in Scouting, and was awarded the Silver Beaver in recognition in 1976 for his outstanding service.
Dale enjoyed his 50+ year affiliation with boys and leaders in Boy Scouts of America. His love for the scouting program ran deep and he passed it on to his sons and many others. In addition to running his farm he took up construction and cabinet making and trained his sons in the trade.
After his sweetheart passed away in July 2005, he learned to bake bread and a few other skills that surprised many. On September 18, 2008 he was blessed with another angel when he married Margaret (Marge) Barnes. She was a wonderful and faithful companion and blessing to Dale, for which all his children are eternally grateful.
Dale is survived by his second wife Marge and his seven children Sheila (Harold) West of Rupert ID, Kim (Sheri) Butler of Loveland CO, Mark (Becky) Butler of Arlington TX, Susan (Gaylen) Chandler of Wichita KS, Maureen (Lee) Brown of Kearney MO, Brent (Emilsa) Butler of Mesa AZ, Karla (Scott) Eastman of Kaysville UT; Marge's two sons Bob and Steve and their families, and 42 Grandchildren, and 37 Great Grandchildren.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters (Ruth, Ray, Frank, Claude, Wesley, and Norma) and loving wife Verla, and one grandson Scott West.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 28, 2015 at the Acequia LDS Church with Bishop Jeffrey Miller officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the viewing Friday March 27, 2015 from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Hansen Mortuary, 710 6th St, Rupert, Idaho, and 9:30-10:30 AM at the church before the funeral. Services will conclude with burial at the Rupert Cemetery under the direction of Hansen Mortuary.
