Bessie Young Halverson was born March 9, 1928 in Pingree, Idaho. She passed away February 9, 2017 at Autumn Haven Assisted Living Center in Rupert, Idaho.

Bessie was the daughter of Adolph Young and Bernice Swasey, she was raised in Burley, Idaho and graduated from Burley High School. She married Duane Halverson in Rupert, Idaho on August 18, 1948. She lived in Rupert the rest of her life. Bessie was a mother of 3 sons, David (deceased), Don and (Renae) of Rupert, and Dann and (Wi) of Houston, TX.

She graduated from Idaho State University with a bachelor's degree in education and from the College of Idaho with a Master's Degree in Education. She taught 5th grade in Rupert for many years and she loved all her students. Bessie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving faithfully in Relief Society and any other calling she was asked to do. She served a LDS mission to Monterey, Mexico and served for many years in the Logan and Twin Falls Temples.

She is survived by 2 sons and their wives, 9 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers LaMar, Carl, Kent and Vern Young and sister Dorothy Cantrell.

She is preceeded in death by her husband Duane Halverson, son David Halverson, one great grandson, and one great-great grandson, brothers Grant, Dean and Fred Young and sisters Joy Young, Leora Fishburn, Beth Borchard and Carol Gilbert.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Rupert Stake Center 324 East 18th Street Rupert, Idaho under the direction of Bishop Layne Mackay. Services will conclude with burial at the Rupert Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Hansen Mortuary in Rupert and at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. before the funeral.
