Herbert Nussgen Obituary

Herbert Leonard Nussgen, 88, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family in Heyburn, Idaho. Herb was born December 7th, 1929 in Twin Falls, to Herbert and Esther Nussgen. Herb was married to Maxine Humphreys of Marysville, Idaho, daughter of Charles and Mary Smith Humphreys, Maxine, the love of his life, who passed in 2013 after being married for 63 ½ years. Herb was a long time resident of Heyburn, Idaho. Herb worked in his family owned bakery for many years (the Electric Baker in Twin Falls and Quality Bakery in Burley) and learned the craft from his father and his fathers father, he also ran the Smith's bakery after Shelby's supermarket closed due to fire in 1968. Herb belonged to the N.R.A., Ducks Unlimited, Idaho Sportsman for Wildlife, the National Sporting Clay Association and was a member of the Burley Trap Club. He went to church everyday. . .the outdoors was his church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Eshter Nussgen of Burley, Maxine passed in 2013. Herb is survived by his brother, Roger Nussgen of Martin South Dakota, children, Clifford Michael (Lee) Nussgen, Kathleen Ester (Kerry) Clark, Susan Lynn (Van) Stutzman, Teresa Marie (Marty) Harrold. They were blessed with 9 grandchildren; Kari Lee Nussgen, Jamie (Sonya) Moon, Heather Kathleen Moon, Jason (Danelle) Stutzman, Chad (Carrie) Stutzman, Scotty (Karlee) Stutzman, Mike (Jacquoy) Cole, Casey (Katelyn) Cole, Jeanda (Scott) Lawson. Great-grandchildren; Jordan (Dusty) Moon, Branton, Brinley, Braedan, Liam, Cora, Silas, Henry, Preston, Kinsley, Hamiah, Haiden, Birklee and Kevin; and great-great-grandsons Jadyn and Hunter, great great-granddaughters Sadie and Taylee. Longtime friends Wally Bradshaw and Gary Critchfield, Burley Idaho. He so loved his Brittany Spaniel, "Katie" who is missing him.

Herb was well known for his love for his wife Maxine, his outstanding baked goods, his work ethic, his quick wit, his world class marksmanship, his uncanny strength, his attraction to Island Park, his love for fishing and hunting, his campfire storytelling, and talking on the phone with his son and daughters for hours, sometimes up to three hours. He had an natural ease of making friends, his master ability of frugality, a memory that elephants would die for, love for sagebrush and his dogs and just as important as any of the preceding qualities. . .one of the best husbands, fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, father-in-laws and friend you could hope for if you had a choice. We will miss your friendly greeting and smiles, hunting and fishing trips and stories, we love you and we will miss you, but know you are happy being reunited with your true love Maxine!

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday July 11, 2018 at Hansen Mortuary with Reverend Brian Lindemood officiating. Services are under the Direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary. The interment will follow at Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley.

In lieu of flower arrangements, donations can be made to Burley Trap Club or Idaho Sportsmen for Wildlife.
