John Paul Johnson, 82-year-old Rupert resident, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born at the old Rupert Hospital, February 16, 1937 to Thomas and Ruth (Ames) Johnson. He graduated in the last class from Rupert High School, “Class of 55”. John joined the United States Army and served after the Korean Conflict, then served in the National Guard and instructed in the Army Reserve. John served his country honorably for 42 years.
John returned to Rupert after his initial service in the Army and married Delores Bolish on November 19, 1966. She joined him and his three children. He was an electrician and worked for Simplot, Lott Electric, Dalry Electric and retired from Magic Valley Foods as the Electrical Supervisor, but continued service to the people of the community with his own electrical business as well as being the station manager of KUMCLP, the United Methodist Church’s radio station in Rupert.
He is survived by his wife, Delores, three children, Dan and wife Kim, of Burley, Bill and his wife Wendi of Middltown, California, and Tamara and her husband Mark Andreasen of Rupert. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ruth and his twin brothers, Robert and Richard.
A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Hansen Mortuary in Rupert. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Rupert United Methodist Church.
