Juan Antonio Garcia, husband, father and grandfather, died while recovering from a recent illness, Thursday, March 7, 2019 in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Juan was born on December 19, 1943 in the town of Cedral, SLP, Mexico to his parents, Teodoro and Refugio Garcia. He spent his childhood and early teenage years in Mexico, before immigrating to the U.S. Juan, along with his parents and siblings moved to Idaho where they became migrant farm workers. As a young man, he contributed to the family's welfare, which allowed his younger siblings to remain in school and graduate high school.
Juan enlisted into the Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a high-speed tanker who promoted quickly to the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed at Ft. Drum, NY and held guard duties during the Presidential Inauguration of Johnson and Nixon. He also guarded Robert Kennedy as he escorted him through the riots of Washington D.C. during the time of civil unrest in the country.
After his honorable service Juan returned home to Rupert where he would continue to drive truck as a professional for 45 years. Juan drove truck for several local businesses, including Simplot's, Ore-Ida/McCains, JBP, AG Express and most recently High Output Construction. It was during this time of work that he met and married Lisa Romero. They had 4 boys, Gorge M. Garcia, Alejandro Garcia, Lisandro Fidel Garcia and Isidro Antonio Garcia. Prior to them he had Juan Jr., Valentin Garcia, and Nicholas Garcia. Lisa provided him with strength and support to continue living. He had a passion for fishing, he shared with all of his sons. Juan loved to laugh, listen to music and tell stories. He was a diehard Minnesota Vikings fan and he loved talking football with his sons.
Juan was preceded in death by his parents, his son Lisandro Fidel Garcia who died as a still born and his brothers Moises, Abraham, Abel. He is survived by his wife Lisa, his sons, grandchildren, and his siblings Elvia Gabiola, Ted Garcia, Chon Garcia, Dan Garcia, David Garcia, Sam Garcia and Esther Rose.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 16, 2019 at Hansen Mortuary. Viewing for family and friends will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday March 15, 2019 at Hansen Mortuary. Services are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
