Alicia Arteaga Ramirez was born on March 20, 1945, in Pretoria Michoacan Mexico. She passed away on July 15, 2021, peacefully at home with her husband Daniel Ramirez Sr at her side. She was 76 years young.
Alicia was the daughter to Amador and Glafira Torres Arteaga. In the early 70’s, she made a very difficult decision to leave the sanctuary of her home in pursuit of a better life for her children. A decision that would impact many lives. At that time, she survived with whatever resources she could get. She knew this was not how she wanted her children to grow up and wanted to give them a chance in life. She borrowed $3,000 pesos and packed all her belongs along with her children in pursuit of her dream to give her children a better opportunity in life.
Alicia arrived in area called “El Bruno” (near Norland Idaho) sometime in the late winter of 1974 with all her children. Soon she was able to reunite with her husband and together, they moved to Minidoka where the family grew to 9 children. With her children, she worked the fields as a contractor and as a farm worker. She helped others who were looking for work and get them established and provided resources in settling to their new homeland. Alicia consistently fought for her children and made sure they had every opportunity to advance. Graduating from high school was something she did not accomplish but wanted to have her children the chance to experience. An opportunity that inspired her children to do more for their families and communities.
In early 1980, Alicia wanted to stabilize her family and bought her very first home in Rupert, Idaho where she lived for the rest of her life. This was another of her dreams that she made possible that allowed her to see her children grow up and pursue their own dreams and careers. Her legacy are her children and the grandchildren/great grandchildren she left behind in a place that she loved and believed in.
Alicia is survived by her beloved husband Daniel Ramirez Sr, Mother Glafira Arteaga; Children: Alberto Ramirez (Elvia), Rosa Ramirez Nunez (Faustino), Daniel A. Ramirez Jr.(Luz), Felipe Ramirez (Cebelin), Hilda Ramirez Allen (George), Esther Ramirez (Dmitri), Carlos Ramirez, Santiago Ramirez, Rebecca Ramirez Ball (Shane), her 22 adored grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; Siblings Rosario, Samuel, Margarito, Audelio, Gloria, Maria and Maria de Jesus as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
