Andrew L. Johnson, 53, of Rupert, passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2020 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was born on July 12, 1966 in Seattle, Washington and was adopted by Verne and Wilma Johnson of Rupert, Idaho. The second of five children, he spent his early years playing baseball, working at Doc & Dan’s, and getting into mischief with his many friends.
After high school, Andrew fulfilled a lifetime goal by joining the Marine Corps. Unfortunately, an injury led him to being honorably discharged after basic training. His oldest daughter, Graye Dawn, was born in 1989. He spent his early adulthood in the Vancouver, Washington area with his first wife, two stepdaughters, and Graye. During this time, he achieved another life goal--starting a business selling concealed carry holsters based on his own patented design. The popular holsters were sold world-wide on his website, AKJ Concealco, and some may still be in use by Rupert’s local law enforcement. He also reconnected with his birth parents, Betty Bushey and Randy Fredickson, and they remained in contact over the years.
In 2003, after divorcing his first wife, Andrew moved back to Rupert with Graye. He met Michelle Eilers that April, and after a whirlwind romance, they were married in August. Two daughters were born: Evey Elizabeth in 2007 and Jacie Ann in 2011. The couple divorced in 2017.
Andrew loved spending time outdoors fishing, going shooting, taking pictures, exploring the desert, and camping with his children and grandchildren. His true passion was playing darts, and he participated in many leagues and national tournaments for the sport. His last months were difficult after the death of his long-time significant other, Jolene Hobbs of Pocatello, in January 2020.
Andrew is survived by his three daughters, Graye Johnson, Evey Johnson, and Jacie Johnson; his two grandchildren, Braxton Merrell and Natalie Torix; his siblings, Gail Johnson, Matt (Lisa) Johnson, LuAnn (Malcolm Smith) Johnson, and John Johnson; his birth mother, Betty Bushey; his birth father, Randy Fredrickson; and his half-siblings, Mike (Patty) Fournier, and Nicole Barclay. Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Wilma Johnson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 11, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Hansen Mortuary, 710 6th Street in Rupert, Idaho. Andrew will be laid to rest at the Rupert Cemetery following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
