Rupert resident Arnold (Arnie) Hirsch passed away on Friday February28, 2020 at Abrazo Medical Center in Goodyear Arizona at the age of 87 years. He married Esther Mittlieder on December 2, 1951. They moved to Rupert in 1956, where he has since resided.
He was preceded in death by his wife Esther, son Burdette, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Carol Jarvis Hirsch whom he married on October 25, 1996, one daughter, Susan (Dale) Riggings of Omaha, Nebraska, one son, Delmar (Roberta) of Burley, and one brother, Robert Hirsch of Heyburn, Idaho. He was proud grandfather; great grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was loved by many nieces and nephews.
Arnold's first job in Rupert was at Comstock's in Acequia. He also worked for Minidoka Schools as a mechanic and bus driver, before working at Cassie County School District. He retired in October 2009. He was a part-time employee for Rupert Gas and Oil for over 40 years. Arnold was involved in starting the Rupert Police Reserves and held the title of Captain for 21 years. He was a long-time member of the Elks at Rupert.
A celebration of life will be held graveside at the Rupert Cemetery, 450 North Meridian, Rupert, Idaho 83350, on April 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Rupert Senior Center in Arnie’s name. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
