Our beloved Berna Silvaz, 71, returned to her heavenly father on Friday, January 14, 2022. She was a very special woman with a heart of gold.
Berna was born February 13, 1950 to Juanita Flores and Manuel Aguniaga in Meadow, Texas. She was the fifth child of a large family and loved being a sister to each of them. At the age of 3, they relocated to Burley, Idaho--which became her forever home. Her childhood was spent caring for her siblings because that is what she loved to do. This bond continued throughout her life--especially with her sisters Maria Salazar, Manuela Campos, and Esperanza Garcia.
In 1974, she married the love of her life, Felix Silvaz. They were inseparable from day one and had a relationship that others always admired. They went on to have 4 children: Mary Jane, Margarita, Felix Jr and Daniel. Later, after her sister Yolanda’s passing, Juanita became her fifth child. It was always so important to them to spend as much quality time as they could. The yearly Lagoon and camping trips were filled with so many fun memories and fun stories that were told for years.
One thing every person who met her immediately knew was how much she loved her grandkids: Yolanda, Danielle, Raul, Urian, Zack, Kylie, Jordan, Zachary, Isaiaha, Yessenia, Xavier, Vashity, Xandyr, Heriberto, Eli, Jayden, Mary Jane (Baby girl), Dominick, Silas, Yaneli, and Yamilet. She was a very hands-on grandma who spent every single second she could with them. She was there to listen--and their biggest supporter in anything they did. They all loved her famous tortillas and breakfast potatoes and frequently asked for seconds or thirds.
Berna loved to work and started at a young age. She was only 16 when she settled down and found a work home with Ore-Ida/McCains and was with them for 52 years. To her co-workers, please know that she enjoyed your time together
Making the decision to retire was difficult for her but knowing this would mean more time with her family helped ease that stress. She celebrated her retirement in a few different ways: a trip to Disneyland, extended weekends in Nampa, a vacation to Montana, and even what started out as a 2-week trip to help her son move in Mississippi turned into a 6-month stay (thanks to a global pandemic.)
Berna is survived by her husband of 47 years Felix Silvaz; Her children: Mary Jane Silvaz, Margarita Silvaz, Felix (Rachael) Silvaz Jr., Daniel (Darina "her Princess") Silvaz, Juanita (Jorge) Morales; Grandchildren: Yolanda (Gady), Raul, Urian (Angie), Zack (Cindy), Jordan, Isaiaha, Xavier, Yessenia, Vashity, Zachary, Kylie, Danielle, Xandyr, Heriberto, Jayden, Dominick, Mary Jane (babygirl), Silas, Yaneli, and Yamilet; And Great-Grandchildren: Dallas, Azaki, Azavian,Yanitzel, Yuridia, Ivan, Zerrique, Zaedyn, and Aryah.
