Camille Haskin Obituary

Camille Haskin, age 87, passed from this world Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at her home in Rupert with family by her side.  Camille was born in Burley, Idaho on September 4, 1937, to Guy and Hazel Simons.  She was the 4th of 5 children and the only girl in the bunch.  She attended school in Burley and graduated in 1955.   She was active in the Pep club, Mixed chorus, Operetta, Triple trio girls singers and the Mixed Ensemble.  Early in Camille’s senior year she met and fell in love with a guy from the “other side of the river” (Rupert) and started dating her future husband, Gene Haskin.  Mom’s parents wouldn’t let her get married until she turned 18.  Well, she turned 18 on the 4th of September and they were married on the 9th of September.   They spent the next 60 years building a life. Two children were born to this marriage, Mike in 1958 and Pam in 1961.

Camille & Gene were the owner/ operators to the Western Auto Store in Rupert for over 20 years.  The store was started by Gene’s grandfather in 1937 and was passed down to his son Harold and then to Gene and Camille who operated it until it’s closing in 1986.  Mom then worked for Hudson’s Shoes in Burley until her retirement in 2006.  She made many lasting friends through her working years.

Mom loved competing in women’s bowling leagues and spent many years at the bowling alley.  She loved to play pinochle and Skipbo and take the occasional trip to Jackpot and try and find a lucky slot machine.  Most of all she liked to be with her family, whether that was on a camping or hunting/ fishing trip or supporting her kids and grandkids in their endeavors.

Camille is survived by her son, Mike (Tracy) Haskin of Heyburn, Pam (Dave) Smith of Burley, her grandchildren, Lindsay (Joey) Nelson of Kuna, Sara (Brent) Dupree of Nibley, Utah, and Dustin (Ainsley) Smith of Burley. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and a granddaughter, Ashley Haskin

The family would like to thank Dr Jeff Swensen for his excellent care of mom over the years, Sarah with Hearts 4 Seniors who was a gem of a caretaker but unfortunately, we were only able to use her a couple of times, and Horizon Home Health & Hospice, who made her transition at the end very peaceful. Also, a special thanks to Terry Camp, a special friend to mom over the years.

Per mom’s request that we don’t make a fuss, there will be no funeral service planned but a family gathering at a future date.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
