Celestina Cortes-Avila (85), beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother returned to her heavenly home surrounded by her loved ones on October 29th, 2022 in Burley, Idaho.
Celestina was born April 6th, 1937 to Faustino and Isabel Cortes in El Palmito, Durango. She was the eldest of 2 daughters. She lived in El Palmito until the age of 7 when she moved to Chacuiloca, Zacatecas. There she met her husband Alberto Avila. Together they had 10 children.
Celestina loved her children so deeply and wanted to give them the best chance in life so she came to the United States in 1982 in order to provide better opportunities for each of them. She lived in Hollister, California until 1989 when she moved to Heyburn, Idaho. She was a long time resident of Heyburn, Idaho. She lived there until she became too ill to care for herself.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Faustino and Isabel Cortes, her sister Ampelia Cortes, her son Lupito Avila, and her granddaughter Rachel Avila.
Celestina is survived by her children Enrique (Patricia) Avila, Adelaido (Tammy) Avila, Andres (Patricia) Avila, Blanca Estela (Petronilo) Manriquez, Celia (Martin) Tenorio, Alberto (Marcela) Avila, Pablo (Araceli) Avila, Maria Guadalupe (Roman) Rivera, and Salvador Avila. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A viewing will be held Thursday November, 3rd, 2022 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Hansen Mortuary in Rupert, Idaho. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 4th, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Rupert. A rosary for Celestina will be held at 10:00 am right before the funeral services.
