Charles (Charlie) Boyd Obituary

Charles Newton Boyd (Charlie), was born on April 12, 1949 to Eugene David Boyd and Helen Edgehlile Boyd in Boston, Massachusetts. He passed away January 30, 2021 in Reno, Nevada.  He was the youngest of seven children, five sisters: Natalie, Patricia, Joan, Eileen, Anne, and one brother, E. David Boyd.

At the age of four years old, Charlie, moved to Idaho with his mother and brother. At the age of five years old, he acquired and was raised with a much loved and wonderful stepfather Willie Taylor.  Charlie attended schools in South Central Idaho and later attended and finished his schooling in Challis, Idaho.

Charlie later met the love of his life, Ruth Ann Mendenhall, and they were married on July 16,1973.  They moved to Battle Mountain, Nevada where they bought a home and settled there.  Charlie worked in the mines for over thirty years and retired from Battle Mountain Gold Company.

Charlie enjoyed taking road trips in his RV with his wife by his side and visiting all of his family especially his nephews and nieces. Charlie loved doting over his wife, Ruth, and giving her all she ever wanted. He liked collecting many different things. Charlie was an avid gun enthusiast, and very much loved shooting guns. He was a fan of The University of Nevada Wolf-Pack Football team and enjoyed going to Reno to watch their home football games. Charlie loved the many pets he had through the years, especially his dog Smokey, and his wolf Reno.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Ruth Mendenhall Boyd, of Lovelock, NV, his sisters, Patricia Giannino, of Watertown, MA, and Anne Sandlian, of Burley, ID. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Douglas Sandlian, Steve Sandlian, James Sandlian, Patricia Orthman, Chris Hamby, Dave Hamby, Lenny Spencer, Tim Spencer, Anne Marie Shelton, Kathleen Hausman, Joseph Johnston, Danny Chipchase, and Janice McCluskey. 

Charles was preceded in death by his father Eugene David Boyd, mother Helen Edgehill Bates, sisters Natalie LeFevre, Joan Irish, and Eileen Johnston, and his brother E. David Boyd, nephew Michael Johnston, and an unborn son.  

A graveside service for Charlie will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Filer Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary in Rupert.
