Elma Chugg of Rupert, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family at the age of 95 years young,
Following a great recovery from a blood clot. Elma was able to celebrate her 95th birthday with her family. She transitioned from going home with a wheelchair and moved back into her walker and was finally able to walk around the counters without any walker in tow! This was her desire and goal for the last several years.
Elma was blessed with a good quality of life her last three weeks before suffering from a stroke.
Elma was born July 15, 1926 to Martin and Katrina Gerlack of Paul and was the youngest of six siblings. She grew up in Paul where she attended school, graduating from Paul High School.
Elma married Jay L. Chugg of Acequia and had four children J. Alan; Cathy (Bob) Brown; Susan (deceased) Craig Eckles; and Marlyce (Doug) Tuma. She loved and enjoyed her eight grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
Elma enjoyed working with her husband Jay on their farm and also touched thousands of lives in her career as bookkeeper at Minico High School.
In her retirement years, she and Jay loved being snowbirds in many different areas of Arizona.
Elma was very fortunate to have always had an exceptional memory and the mind of a CPA/bookkeeper till the very end of her life. She beat many odds in her last ten years such as surviving her first broken bones (hip/femur) when she was eighty-five and many bouts of pneumonia. She was the strongest gal we know.
Elma enjoyed gardening, her flower beds and most recently, resting on her patio. Elma always kept an immaculate house and yard, and everyone always knew the "Chugg" corner for its beauty.
Elma loved her family deeply and always let them know how proud she was of them.
Elma was a very special wife, mom, grandma and friend. she will be deeply missed, and we will always treasure our memories of what she meant to us and how she cherished and cared for us.
We would like to thank all of you who have shown support and care for our family during this time.
At Elma's request, she opted that there be no viewing, funeral, or memorial service. A private family memorial will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
We love you, love you, love you mom
