Etelvina Maldonado Vasquez was born on May 11, 1951 in Cuidad Mier, Mexico. She lived many of her years going back and forth from the U.S. to Mexico so her parents, her, and her sisters could work in the fields. When she was 19, she met the love of her life, Leo Vasquez, at the Rupert Fair. They married two years later on August 5, 1972. Karla Burkett was born four years later in 1976 and Juan Vasquez was born three years later in 1979.
As a family, they spent time fishing, camping, playing board games, and traveling. Etelvina was loved by so many who knew her. She was known as the sweetest, amazing, loving, and caring woman to so many. She got compliments always, no matter where she went on how cute she dressed, on her bling and jewelry, her hair, and just everything about her. She loved wearing a variety of hats which were very stylish. In all her years working with the schools and education, her favorite part, which she loved, was working with all the little kids. She loved those kids like they were her own.
She loved her husband, children, granddaughter, step grandchildren, and everyone’s fur babies. She was always asking about our fur babies. She loved decorating for the holidays and collecting collectables from all over and of all kinds. She was proud of her children and granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Jovita Tamez Maldonado. She is survived by her husband, Leo Vasquez; her children Karla (Steve) Burkett and Juan (Rosa Maria) Vasquez; her granddaughter Peyton Baylee Vasquez; four step grandchildren Mackenzie, Caden, Kaydee, and Kyla. Two sisters, Belen Hinojosa and Marta Salinas also survive her. She was deeply loved and will be missed by everyone.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Hansen Mortuary in Rupert with Deacon Jose Medina officiating. Services are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
