Franklin George Suhr, a lifelong farmer, Bible enthusiast, and proud Navy veteran, passed away on February 26, 2025, at the age of 101, after a life marked by steadfast faith, hard work, and personal conviction. Born on January 27, 1924, in Hooper, Nebraska, Franklin was the eldest son of Richard and Anna (Liston) Suhr. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ella (Senften) Suhr, and his brother Bill Suhr.
Franklin grew up on a farm in Paul, Idaho, where he spent most of his life, ultimately passing away in the same house where he was raised. Farming was in his blood, and he dedicated his life to working the land, cultivating sugar beets, and raising cattle. He lived long enough to witness many changes in both his town and his farm, adapting through the decades while remaining grounded in the values of hard work and perseverance that had shaped him from the beginning.
His faith was one of the cornerstones of his life. Franklin was a devoted student of the Bible and often engaged in spirited debates with anyone who would listen. He taught Bible study for many years, sharing his interpretations and beliefs with others.
On June 9, 1948, Franklin married Ella Senften, and together they raised four children: Fred Suhr (Scapoose, Oregon), Trudy Miller (Oren, Minot, North Dakota), Don Suhr (Paul, Idaho), and Nancy Orthman (Rupert, Idaho).
A proud Navy veteran, Franklin enlisted on January 6, 1942, shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and served during World War II. His love for sailing and travel, particularly to the San Juan Islands, remained a lifelong passion. Franklin’s independence and conviction will be remembered by all who knew him, along with his enduring commitment to his farm and faith.
Franklin is survived by his brother, Jim Suhr (Margaret), and his four children, along with their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to intermountain Home Health and hospice for their kindness and support during the Franklin’s final days. Franklin George Suhr’s legacy of resilience, faith and dedication to the land will continue to live on in the memories of those who knew him. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday March 7, 2025, with Military Rites at the Paul Cemetery, Paul, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
