George Falkner Obituary

George Ward Falkner was born July 3, 1926 in Brigham City, Utah to Ira Clark Falkner and Mary Peeples Falkner. Around 4 years of age George moved with his mother to Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Soon Mary re-Married Paul Curless and a new baby sister Patsy was welcomed followed by a brother Randy. George’s stepfather Paul instilled a love of the outdoors, hard honest work and values that guided him his whole life.

In 1944 George joined the Army and served in the 101st Airborne Division. Although he never completed his basic training he served courageously and earned a Bronze Star. After the war was over he chauffeured high ranking officials to the Nuremburg trials. After his discharge from the army he married Laura Naomi Halsted. From their union came 4 children: George Roy, James Eugene, Karen Louise and Katherine Carol.

In 1954 George and his wife Laura drew a farm on the Homestead Act and build a house North of Paul.  After several years of farming George changed his profession and started selling real state. Finding he enjoyed helping people buy their new home he opened Falkner Realty.  After George and Laura’s marriage ended George remained in Rupert and severed on multiple organizations such as Civil Defense, Red Cross, Citizens on Patrol, Meals on Wheels, Lions Club, American Legion, County Planning and Zoning and the Civil Air Patrol where he flew numerous search and rescue missions. While serving in C.A.P. he obtained the rank of Colonel and was the Idaho Wing Commander and the Deputy Regional Commander.

While checking out books at the library George checked out the librarian, returned the books and kept the librarian, Joan. George and Joan were married and established their new life together. They spent many happy hours with their dear friends fishing and camping. Many good memories were created including several trips to Alaska. He enjoyed reliving these memories during coffee breaks with his many good friends.

George is survived by his daughters Karen Kovar, Kathy Moody; his step children Mike Meuleman, Debbie Barlow and extended family of children and great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his sons George Roy and James Eugene, his wife Joan and his sister Patsy.
