George Sanford Obituary

George C Sanford, passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 91. He came into this world on March 19, 1929 to William and Della Sanford and left it on Wednesday evening, December 23, 2020 with his family by his side.  George was born, raised, and made his home in Paul, Idaho.

George grew up in a farming family in Paul, Idaho.  From a young age he was a very hard worker, learned quickly how to run any piece of farm machinery, and was dedicated to whatever job he was given.  He attended all of his academic school career in Paul and participated, and excelled, in baseball, basketball and track.  He was known as an outstanding athlete.  George graduated from Paul High School in 1947.

George’s favorite pastime, baseball, came to fruition while he was in the military.  He served in the army until November 1952.  While serving George was the third baseman and outfielder for the Rhine Military Post baseball team, winning the 1952 G.I. World Series in Germany. He was signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league team, and enjoyed the sport until he slid into second base and injured his knee.

After his military and baseball careers were over, he returned to Paul, Idaho where he met his love of a lifetime, Lois Rogers.  The two were married on February 12, 1955.  They were blessed with six children: Carey, Terry, Brenda, Bryan, Lori, and Melanie.

Although he was a man of few words, George instilled the value of hard work in his children showing that to love someone is to provide for them.  His dedication to providing for his family was seen while he farmed for Fred & Mildred Rogers, and Blincoe Farms.  He worked for Blincoe Farms until his retirement and would often take countryside drives out North of Paul to enjoy the scenery long after retirement.

George is preceded in death by his parents (William and Della Sanford), son (Carey Brent Sanford), son-in-law (Paul Garza), sister (Zella), and brother (Ted Sanford).

George is survived by his wife, Lois Rogers Sanford, son Terry (Brenda) Sanford, daughter Brenda Sue (Paul)Garza, son Bryan Scott (Gloria)Sanford, daughter Lori (Chester)Younger, and daughter Melanie (Ricky) Meyers, Fourteen Grandchildren, and Seventeen Great Grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr Owens and Hearts for Seniors in helping to care for our dad in his final days.
