Gerald Edward Simmons passed on July 5, 2025. Gerald was born July 16, 1940 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He grew up in Shelley on a dry farm above Idaho Falls. His father died when 10 years was old. He moved to Portland Oregon when is mother remarried. Gerald graduated from an all boys school, with honors. He moved to Idaho and later went to electronics school in Salt Lake. He worked in Eastern Idaho for several years. In May of 1977 he moved from Idaho Falls to Rupert , on May 5,1977 he married Joyce and became a father of 5, a year later he and Joyce had a daughter, Megan.
Dad worked for as a journeyman electrician for the City of Burley, the City of Rupert and retired from United Electric. He served as counselor in the bishopric, as a scout leader, basketball coach, and ward mission leader. Gerald loved building puzzles and swing sets for his kids and grandchildren. Dad loved to tinker! In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to snowmobile and to share that with his many nieces and nephews.
He was always quick to tell a joke, be there to lend a helping hand, or offer his endless skills to assist anyone in need.
Gerald was proceeded in death by his parents Leo Charles and Nellie Simmons, his sister Betty Glenn, brothers Vernal, Dennis, Lyle and Gene Simmons, his daughter Ann Simmons Kontos, his grandsons Rhett G. Kontos and Brayden M. Blackmon. He is survived by his wife Joyce Simmons and children Chuck, Jay, Karen, Jean and Megan , as well as 13 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
We are grateful for our father, for his and friend. He was always very loving and kind. Until we meet again!
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Hansen Mortuary. Viewing for family and friends will be held for one hour prior to the services. Services will conclude with burial in the Rupert Cemetery under the direction of Joel heward Hansen Mortuary.
