J. Drew Hilling

On December 2, 2024, John Drew Hilling literally and suddenly stepped from this life into the next. Drew was born to Johnny E. Hilling and Carolyn B. Hilling on October 11, 1955, here in Rupert. Drew attended school in Rupert and was active in the LDS church having held many callings. He served a mission to the Bozier City, Louisiana mission. Drew was an avid horseman and proudly owned, rode and cared for his horse and “buddy”, Starbuck, for nearly 30 years. He was so proud to know that he bought Starbuck as a colt and trained him himself. Starbuck recognized Drew each time he visited him and eagerly came to him.

Drew was well known and loved by the community. Life was not easy for Drew, but his friends and ward family made his life easier for him.

Late in life Drew decided to learn to play the guitar and serenaded many people with Alan Jackson songs – including his horse.

Drew loved the temples and diligently studied each temple during construction. He was able to keep everyone informed on each temple’s progress.

Drew was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Julia Vickers. Drew is survived by his siblings Gayle Allen (Eric), Alanna Warnick (Silvan) and Brett Hilling (Colleena) and many cherished nieces and nephews.

The family especially wants to extend their heartfelt thanks to Drew’s ward family and community friends for their care and love that they showed him during his lifetime. Your help and care in looking after Drew will forever be remembered. Special thanks are sent to Rick Larsen and his family and Glade Chandler and his family. In Drew’s words “I’m fine.” Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024 with shared memories starting at 7:00 p.m. at Hansen Mortuary Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
