Jerry Wakewood Obituary

Jerry L. Wakewood, 78, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2020, at the Minidoka Memorial Hospital, with his sister by his side.

Jerry was born on June 12, 1941 to Pete and Zara Wakewood in Nyssa, Oregon.  When Jerry was two years old, the family moved back to Rupert, Idaho. They settled in the “Pioneer District,” Northwest of Rupert, on the Wakewood homestead farm.  He attended Pioneer School through the eighth grade, graduating from the Rupert High School.  He worked on the family farm after High School. In July 1964 Jerry joined the United States Air Force.  He was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska.  He was honorably discharged in July 1968.  After his active duty in the service, Jerry moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.  He worked for the same company for 22 years, making deliveries all over the Salt Lake City area.  Jerry enjoyed meeting new people, and his job gave him the ability to meet hundreds of new people throughout his time with the company.  Jerry loved to ride motorcycles and acquired two Honda Goldwing bikes during his time in Utah.  He spent many vacations riding with friends through Colorado and Arizona.  One of Jerry’s proudest moments was the time he spent at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.  He was joined by his parents, and an Aunt and Uncle.  Jerry returned to Rupert, Idaho in 1993 after the passing of his father.  He returned to help take care of his mother.  He eventually retired in Rupert.  He loved spending time with his immediate family, his church family, and the many friends he acquired during his lifetime.  Jerry could laugh about anything, good or bad.  He was an active member of the Rupert United Methodist Church.  He was a member of the Rupert Elk’s Lodge, and proudly served as Chaplain.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Zara Wakewood, a brother, Don Wakewood, and a nephew, Jody McGill.  He is survived by his sister, Marilyn McGill, Nephew, Johnny Jr. (Jeannie) McGill, and two great nephews, D.J. McGill and Johnathon (Trisha) McGill.
