John Manning Obituary

John Daryl Manning, 46 of Rupert, passed away May 16th, 2025.  He was born in Burley, Idaho to John and Vicky Manning on April 1, 1979.   He grew up in Spokane Washington before moving back to Rupert where he attended East Minico Middle School and Minico High School, where he met Gena and they started dating their sophomore year.  One day after looking back at old photographs, they came across a picture from their Kindergarten graduation and they found out they were standing side by side in the picture and didn’t know each other at that time.

While attending the College of Southern Idaho John and Gena had their first son Tyler. John started working at the BLM as a wildland firefighter in Burley and was also stationed at the Almo Guard Station for a couple years. They then had their second son Coltin in 2002. John started working at Rupert Lumber and Paint with his brother-in-law Jason Lynch. Then came along Macee, Johns “Sweet Pea” in 2006 and John accepted a position as Project Engineer and the family moved to Coeur d’ Alene. John enjoyed time at the lake with the family and teaching his boys to ski at Lookout Mountain.  With a rough economy the family decided to move back to Rupert after four years.  John and his brother Mike started A to B Services and later A to B Motorcoach.

John loved any outdoor activity especially if it was with his family. He was known by everyone for his master BBQing skills and his ability to bring joy to any room. He loved taking his kids and grandson fishing on the whaler even if they would spend most of their time trying to get the hook removed from a snag or the infamous “birds nest in the bait caster”.  He was the biggest supporter for all of his children’s sports as he would coach their basketball and football teams and never missed any of the 6-hr gymnastics meets or volleyball for his little Macee. He was considered a second father to many of Tyler, Coltin and Macee’s friends. John especially loved it when he and Mike went to morning basketball, it was often very competitive between the two and more than likely someone left with an injury, but he loved playing ball with the group. John will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Manning and his Father-in-law Randy Sutton. His grandparents William “B” Manning, Margarita Trevino Manning and Winthrop “Wint” Maxey.  Aunts and Uncles Bill Manning, Jane Manning, and Nathan Huettig.

He is survived by his wife Gena, his children Tyler, Coltin and Macee Manning and his grandson (best pal) Beckett.  Siblings Mike (Nicole) Manning, of Rupert, Sarah Lynch, of Rupert, Jason Lynch, Alaska (Rupert), Julianna “Buggy” Manning, of Paul and Eric Manning. His mother Vicky Manning and his mother-in-law Bonnie Sutton.  Aunts and Uncles, Kathleen (Doug) Rivard, of Spokane WA., James “Jim” (lucy) Manning of Las Vegas (Rupert), Carol (Paul) Stein of Colorado Springs CO., Melanie (Nathan) Huettig -, South Carolina. As well as many nieces and nephews.
