Jose Ramirez Obituary

Jose Gil Ramirez, 83, passed away peacefully, Wednesday November 17th, 2021 at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho, surrounded by family.

Jose was born on February 14th, 1938 in Pretoria Michoacan, Mexico to Felix and Juliana Ramirez. He was the eldest of five brothers raised in Michoacan. At the age of 14 his father, Felix, passed away. Jose, the eldest, then assumed the role of household provider. He also assisted his mother, Juliana, to raise his younger siblings. On February 8th, 1958, aged 20, Jose married Consuelo Ponce from Pretoria, Michoacan. They had been married for 63 years. Together they had 8 children who were the most important part of Jose’s life.

While living in Mexico, Jose worked raising farm animals, grew crops, and raised cattle. He also worked as a temporary contract worker in the USA. In 1978, Jose and his wife Consuelo made a difficult decision to move to the United States in pursuit of a better life for him and his family. Jose and his family moved to Idaho to be near his brothers and to work in agricultural labor. Jose worked for Maier Farms until he retired and was proud to have worked for them all those years. He had built and maintained great relationships with his boss and his coworkers. Jose was a hard working and self-motivated farm worker who was passionate about agricultural labor and cattle farming.

Jose loved traveling to his hometown in Mexico during the winter months. He would love to attend the rodeos there and listen to the live Mexican band music. He enjoyed attending all the festivities in his hometown. Jose loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening. He always grew a beautiful and successful garden. Another of his favorite hobbies was to raise beef cattle. Jose would spend the majority of the day providing proper care to the cows and calves. Jose enjoyed spending time with family, laughing, and always smiling. He was a loving, caring person, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was always thinking of others first. He was a compassionate person and never hesitated to help his family or others. Jose was an amazing loving father to his children and grandchildren. Jose will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends, and all that know him.

Jose is survived by his beloved wife Consuelo Ramirez, children: Alicia Ruiz (Gerardo), Hector Ramirez (Felipa), Adan Ramirez (Maria), Heriberto Ramirez (Eva), Guadalupe Ramirez, Martha Ruiz (Rafael), Margarita Ramirez (Francisco), Yolanda Villalobos (Gabino), his adored 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, siblings: Amando Ramirez and Raul Ramirez, as well as many numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jose is preceded in death by his father Felix Ramirez, mother Juliana Ramirez, granddaughters Sofia Ramirez and Melissa Ruiz, siblings Rogelio Ramirez and Pedro Ramirez.

Our Family would like to thank Victoria Ruiz for being a great caregiver to Jose.
