Josef Schoepp, 97-Year-old long time Rupert resident passed away February 12, 2022 in Rupert Idaho. Born October 12, 1924 in Altana Romania to Johann and Susanna Schoepp. He left home at the age of 16 after being drafted into the German Army and could not return till later in life.
Joe met his first wife Hildagard and were married in Germany where they had 2 sons Herbert and Walter. They soon found themselves in America on a work Visa where he worked for Rogers with sheep and later spent many years working for Bill Moller where he was very successful keeping the farm and feedlot running.
Hilda passed away in the 70’s and Joe met Ilse who was to become his 2nd wife and became the dad he didn’t have to be where he gained 3 more sons and 2 daughters.
Joe left working for Bill and went on a short farming adventure to Alaska in 1980 then worked at Amalgamated Sugar until he retired. Joe loved farming and fishing and spent many years doing this including harvesting potatoes for Boyd Chugg for several years after retiring from Amalgamated.
Joe loved little kids and enjoyed visits from the many that call him Opa/Papa and his “adopted” family neighbors “Papa Joe”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Hildagard, three siblings Johann, Martin, and Louise; three sons, Herbert, Walter, and Royce and a grandson Richard. He is survived by his wife Ilse. Granddaughters Lisa Hanchey and Stacey Olson of California, a grandson Jared Schoepp of Gooding; daughters Terry McCann of Rupert, Trish Maas of Missouri; sons Michael Jensen of Arkansas, Mark Jensen of Nevada, and several nieces and nephews; 57 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Hansen Mortuary in Rupert, Idaho on February 18, 2022 with a viewing from 10 to 11 and funeral services immediately following. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery.
