Josephine Moffett Obituary

Josephine Moffett, 88, a former resident of Redondo Beach/Hemet, CA, and formerly of Heyburn, ID, passed away peacefully at her residence, Brookdale, Yorba Linda, CA, December 12, 2020.

Josephine was born February 14, 1932 to Adrianus and Tryntje Barendregt.  She was the fourth child from a family of five children, raised on the Family Farm in Heyburn, ID.  She married Dale Leon Moffett in December of 1949 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Idaho Falls Temple.

Dale and Josephine were blessed to bring forth a family of five children, to which Josephine was very dedicated in raising.  Their journey started in Idaho, but their course changed when their second child, Kerry, was born with birth defects.  The medical needs of their son brought them to California.  They lost Kerry when he was 2 years of age, December 1954.  They liked California and in 1956 Redondo Beach became their home where they lived for the next 44 years.  In the year 2000 they bought a home in Hemet, CA.  After Dale’s passing in 2006, Josephine was able to continue to live with the help of her children until 2017.  She then moved to Yorba Linda, CA closer to her children.

Josephine genuinely loved each home she lived in, making each of them her own.  Being a Dutch Woman truly showed in her cooking, cleaning and raising of her children.  She loved her time in the garden, and her flowers were gorgeous! Walks at the beach and serving in the Temple were her favorite pastimes, besides spending time with her Family.  She was trustworthy, kind, honest and true and loved serving her fellowman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Leon Moffett; her son, Kerry Dale Moffett; her Grandson, Cary Othell Virgin; her Son in Law, Donald Gerber; her siblings, Leonard Barendregt, Leona Warr and Maria Lamb; her Sisters in law, Maxine Moffett, Opal Tolman Moffett, her brothers in law, Blaine Warr, Reid Lamb, Vard Moffett, Dean Moffett, and Glen Tolman.

She is survived by her Children, Debra Gerber of Lindon, UT, Bruce Moffett of Chino, CA, Kristi Hartsock of Tulalip, WA, and Terri Jo Cardon of Yorba Linda, CA; 17 Grandchildren; and 24 Great-Grandchildren; 7 G-Great Grandchildren; Her Sisters in Law, Lois Barendregt, Heyburn, ID and Mary Moffett, Simi Valley, CA.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 21, 2020, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Heyburn, ID.  A viewing will be held for one hour prior to the service.  Local arrangements are under the direction of the Hansen Mortuary, Rupert, ID.

A Celebration of Life is tentatively scheduled February 14, 2021 in Yorba Linda, CA.
