Kassie Nicol Garcia

June 26, 1982- January 19, 2026

Kassie Nicol Thompson Garcia was born June 26th, 1982, to her mother, Roxanne Lange Waters and father, Barton Thompson in Burley, Idaho. Her birth was nothing short of God’s miracle as she was born with health issues that required immediate attention. While at Primary Children’s in Salt Lake City, Utah, she was baptized and showed daily improvements with excellent care and knowledge from the doctors there. She was a sweet little girl with a big heart. She enjoyed growing up outside of Burley on her family’s farm where she enjoyed riding her family’s 4-wheelers, motorcycles, and snowmobiles. When she was seven, her family moved to Burley where she attended local area elementary schools, Burley Jr. High and Burley High School, graduating in 2000. In high school, she was very sociable with many friends who she would continue to lean on throughout her life. She learned a dedicated work ethic from helping in her family’s business where she would take her customer service skills to other local businesses.

Following high school, Kassie chose to stay close to family and continued to work in Burley. She welcomed her daughter Taneisha in the summer of 2004. She and Taneisha spent many years growing together. It was through friends that Kassie decided she’d turn her hobby and skills into her profession and enrolled in the Cosmetology School of Arts and Science, graduating in 2007.

Kassie’s health issues from birth would follow her through adulthood when she was diagnosed with kidney failure. She was advised to begin kidney dialysis and found herself meeting others at Davita Dialysis in Burley. She cherished the nurses and patients she met there. In December of 2011, she received a life changing call from her care team at the University of Utah stating a donor kidney had come available. She always remained grateful to the family who chose to provide this gift that had such a profound impact on her life.

Although Kassie struggled with her health, she never lost sight of where God was leading her and Taneisha. Through friends, she would find the man she would later share her life with, David Garcia Jr. David and Kassie were married August 7, 2015, at the Rupert Country Club, with many friends and family in attendance. It was another highlight of her life, sharing laughs and hugs with everyone. Her newly created family moved to Twin Falls where they found new friends and hobbies to share.

In October of 2025, Kassie was diagnosed with cancer. She would be referred to a specialized care team at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, who would coordinate with her transplant care team at the University of Utah. Unfortunately, Kassie encountered complications from the cancer, which ultimately led to her untimely passing.

Kassie’s compassion and empathy for others were unmatched. Her unwavering faith and kindness touched many. Her legacy of love and selflessness will be felt forever.

Kassie is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Jerrold and Genevieve (Genny) Lange, her paternal uncle Evan Thompson, her father-in-law, David Garcia Sr. and her husband’s maternal grandmother Nadean Moore. She is survived by her husband David Garcia Jr., her daughter Taneisha (Tristan) Bollar, her grandchildren Brody and Kelbie Bollar, her mother Roxanne (Jay) Waters, her father Barton Thompson, her paternal grandparents Richard (Georgia) Thompson, her sister Kaila (Craig) Beltran. Kassie is also survived by her nieces, stepsiblings, mother-in-law, sisters-in-law and many other family members she loved and cared for dearly.

Kassie’s family would like to give a sincere thank you to her care team throughout the Magic Valley, the University of Utah, Huntsman Cancer Institute and St. Luke’s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center.
