Larry Allen Smith age 82, died on July 11, 2025, at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO after a short battle with a Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was born April 20, 1943, in Kemmerer, Wyoming. He spent his early years in Kemmerer, Wy and Rupert, Id and went to Minico High School. He spent the last 25 years in Cahokia, IL.
Larry honorable served in the United States Army from1963 to 1969. After his service to his country, he obtained an Associated degree in Applied Science in Drafting from the College of Southern Idaho. After which he followed in his father’s footsteps and worked for Union Pacific Railroad for over 30 years.
Larry was a big thinker and was a member of MENSA Society. His passion was inventing and improving the convenience of life. He was at his drafting table coming up with new ideas. One of his hero’s was Nikola Tesla and would often travel to meet with Telsa enthusiast and discuss inventions and a futurist lifestyle.
He is preceded in death by his father Russell Aldewin Smith, mother Kathryn Morison Smith and sister Virleen Oliver. He is survived by his nieces Ronda Stayner (Rick), Raycene Eaton (Johnny) and nephew Rob Oliver (Becca).
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 26, 2025, at the Gem Memorial Gardens in Burley, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Hansen Mortuary.
