Lea Patricia Romney Hansen was born November 10, 1929, in El Paso Texas to Van and Helen Romney, and passed from this life on July 28th 2025, at the age of 95.

Pat spent her school years in different locations around the country as the family moved following Van’s work with the US Department of Agriculture.  After high school Pat attended Brigham Young University, and during a break from school went to visit her family who had recently moved to Kimberly Idaho. There she met John Duane Hansen, and they were married soon after.

John and Pat soon had three sons, Richard, Gary, and Douglas. The family moved to Rupert, to join John’s brothers and father in farming on the north side. John and Pat raised potatoes, grains, alfalfa, sugar beets, and 3 rowdy sons on the farm. Eventually they added 3 daughters-in-law, and as John would say, a bumper crop of 20 grandchildren. Family gatherings happen regularly with plenty of food, cake and ice cream, and Pat with an oversized video recorder on her shoulder documenting it all. Pat would write later that her posterity was the greatest blessing in her life. John D. passed away in 2017 after 65 years of marriage.

Pat was naturally talented at many things. She loved plants and grew dozens in her home. She painted, played the piano, organ, and violin, and enjoyed singing. She was also active in the community and spent countless hours serving. She was a PTA president, Minidoka Hospital Pink Ladies President, and the Burley Music Club President. She belonged to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Acequia Art Guild and sang with the Sweet Adelines.

Pat was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served as a Relief Society President, MIA President, counselor in the stake relief society, as well as a temple worker in the Logan and Twin Falls Temples.

She lived a beautiful life of love, service, faith, and family. Her presence will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Van, her husband, John D. Hansen, and her granddaughter Laurie Anne Hansen. She is survived by her brother Robert Romney, (Jeannie) her sister Valerie (Bart) Hogan, and her sons Richard (Jody) Hansen, Gary (Colleen) Hansen, and Doug (Annette) Hansen, 19 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Haven and Hospice for their compassionate care.

Services will be held on August 16th, 2025, at the Acequia Ward Building at 11am. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services at the church beginning at 9:45. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
