LuDene Tanner Obituary

LuDene Searle Tanner, 91, formerly of Rupert, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in Kaysville, Utah April 17, 2021.

LuDene, daughter of Jesse Fielding and Mabel Emerine (Smith) Searle, was born in View, Idaho on June 13, 1929. She was the third daughter in the family of three boys and four girls. She grew up on the family farm before modern conveniences were a part of life and was taught at an early age the value of hard work. As a young child, she began her education in View at the local elementary and attended Burley Junior High and Burley High School where she graduated in 1947. She enjoyed her teenage years with her many friends at school and church activities. One of her favorite pastimes was dancing at the Y-Dell.

After graduating from high school, she began working at Tanner Garage in Rupert. It was here where she met Ronald Smith Tanner. It did not take them long to begin dating. The young couple were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 12, 1949. They settled in Rupert where they spent their entire life raising their family. The family learned to work together beginning with the large family gardening lot. Canning peaches and pears were a family ritual at the Tanner home. Lemon Elberta peaches were LuDene’s favorite, which meant a trip to Utah to make the purchase every fall. Raising their family in Grandview Addition with many neighbors and cousins made for a wonderful family environment. Together LuDene and Ronald were diligent in rearing and teaching their children.

LuDene learned to enjoy cooking as a young girl on the farm and carried this skill into her home as a wife and mother. She was known for her delicious homemade rolls, pies, and chocolate rice krispie treats. Everyone will miss her frozen strawberry jam and homemade bread.

Traveling was a hobby that LuDene and Ronald enjoyed throughout their lives. They traveled to every state in the nation and made several trips to Canada. These trips were often taken with other family members.

LuDene was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in the Primary for over fifteen years and was a dedicated visiting teacher all her life. LuDene and Ronald served at Deseret Industries in Burley, Idaho from 1999-2000 as service missionaries.

LuDene was the mother of four children, Kent (Jolene) Tanner; Glen Tanner; Marilyn (Clarke) Bradshaw; and Alan (Leanne) Tanner; 20 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Ronald in 2007.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Whisper Cove Assisted Living Care in Kaysville, Utah for all the loving care they gave to our mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
