Luis Urriolabeitia, 81 of Rupert passed away on February 6, 2026 at Park View Rehab Care Center. Born on October 27, 1944 in Kortezubi (Bizkaia, Spain) to Ignacio Urriolabeitia and Dominica Aranguena. He is preceded in death by his father Ignacio Urriolabeitia, mother Dominica Aranguena, brothers Dionisio and Juan Urriolabeitia, sisters Rufina, Victoria, Susana and Conchita Urriolabeitia, his 2 grandchildren Nikki and Zachary Arteaga. He is survived by his loving family; Wife Maria Begoña Urriolabeitia of 54 years, daughters Maribel (Rafael Arteaga) and Minguene (Lino Nigoche) Brothers Juan, Pedro, Javier and Vicente Urriolabeitia, Sister Segunda Urriolabeitia, Grandchildren Alex Arteaga and Eri Nigoche. As well as his best friends Agustin, Joe & Ramon.
He migrated to the United States when he was 17 years old and started his job as a sheep herder for several years and then continued to work at JR Simplot driving trucks until his retirement. After retirement he spent his days with his family and friends raising his cattle. He loved going fishing and going to family gatherings- eating foods that he wasn’t allowed to but he was very sneaky in eating those foods, especially sweets! He always said there is always room for dessert!
Viewing will be held 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2026 at St. Nicholas Church in Rupert. Recitation of the Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2026 also at the church. Services will conclude with burial at Rupert Cemetery under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
Luis Urriolabeitia, 81 de Rupert falleció el 6 de Febrero de 2026 en el Centro de Rehabilitación Park View. Nació el 27 de Octubre de 1944 en Kortezubi (Bizkaia, España), hijo de Ignacio Urriolabeitia y Dominica Aranguena. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Ignacio y Dominica Urriolabeitia, sus hermanos Dionisio y Juan Urriolabeitia, sus hermanas Rufina, Victoria, Susana y Conchita Urriolabeitia y sus 2 nietos Nikki y Zachary Arteaga. Le sobreviven su amada familia: su esposa Maria Begoña Urriolabeitia, con quien compartió 54 años de matrimonio; sus hijas Maribel (Rafael Arteaga) y Minguene (Lino Nigoche); sus hermanos Juan, Pedro, Javier y Vicente Urriolabeitia; su hermana Segunda Urriolabeitia; sus nietos Alex Arteaga y Erik Nigoche; y sus mejores amigos Agustín, Joe y Ramón.
Emigró a Estados Unidos a los 17 años y trabajo como pastor de ovejas durante varios años, para luego continuar trabajando en JR Simplot conduciendo camiones hasta jubilación. Después de jubilarse, dedicó sus días a su familia y amigos, y a la cría de ganado. Le encantaba pescar y asistir a reuniones familiares, donde disfrutaba comiendo alimentos que no debería por su salud, ¡pero siempre encontraba la manera de comerlos a escondidas, sobre todo los dulces! Siempre decía, ¡ Siempre hay sitio para el postre!
