Maria Gema Gomez Farfan passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, in Rupert, Idaho, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 1, 1965, to Maria Elena Farfan and Bernardo Farfan. After a courageous battle with cancer, Gema returned to her Heavenly Father with unwavering faith and hope.
Gema was a devoted mother to her three children, Emanuel Gomez, Andrea Gomez, Annalee Gomez, and daughter-in-law Riley (Cody) and a proud grandmother to Aubrey, Domenik, Karsyn, Kamryn, and Charlee. She is survived by her father, Bernardo Farfan; her sisters, Rosalba Nuñez, Blanca Wight, America Cannon, and Elena Banks; and her brothers, Hector Farfan, Miguel Farfan, Joe Farfan, Bern Farfan, and Abraham Farfan.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Maria Elena Farfan, and her brothers-in-law, Joe Cannon and Ignacio Nuñez.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gema lived a life grounded in love, compassion, and service. To many in her family, she and Rosalba were known as the ones who held everyone together, always checking in, always giving, always making sure those they loved were cared for. Several of her siblings shared, “She and Rosalba were like our mothers when our mom passed away,” a sentiment that reflects the deep love and leadership that Gema offered throughout her life.
While Gema was widely loved for her compassion and willingness to serve, she also carried a firmness that emerged when it was needed most. This strength was never harsh, but rather a way of imparting lessons meant to help those around her grow. Her guidance was consistently rooted in genuine care and a sincere hope that others would become the best version of themselves.
Gema’s faith remained strong through her final days. When asked who she was excited to see in the next life, she answered softly that she looked forward to seeing her mom again. That simple, heartfelt expression of hope and reunion reflects the foundation of her testimony and the peace she carried with her as she passed.
Gema touched countless hearts with her kindness and warmth. She was loved by so many, and she gave nothing less than unconditional love in return. Her legacy of strength, generosity, and devotion will continue on in the family she cherished.
