Rupert resident Maria Guajardo, 81, passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2021 in Austin, Texas.
Maria attended elementary and secondary school and later took business classes in Brownsville, Texas. She married Guadalupe Gonzales Jr. of Harlingen, Texas but later in life they divorced. Together they had two children before moving to Rupert, Idaho in the early 1960’s. Rupert became her home where she dedicated herself to working until retirement. Over the last two years she traveled to Austin, Texas for extended winter vacations.
Maria had a strong sense of work ethic and was committed to passing along those and other qualities to her two children, Cindy and Go. Her greatest joy came from watching her three grandchildren grow up by participating in their many activities and events such as birthdays, Easter eggs hunts, tamaladas, music and ballet recitals, soccer games and much more. She loved connecting with friends and family by sharing some of her favorite past times which included sewing, crocheting, quilting, going to the rodeo, and bargain shopping.
She is survived by her two children, Cynthia Gonzales Munguia (Raul) and Guadalupe Gonzales III – “Go” (Judie) and, three grandchildren Sergio Anthony Gonzalez, Julio Gonzalez and Faith Racus (Josh) and one great grandchild Amada Racus. She is also survived by her two siblings, Esperanza Denney and Lucia Valdez and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Maria was predeceased by her parents Lucia Salazar Guajardo and Manuel Guajardo and her eight siblings Guadalupe Guajardo, Maria Garza, Ramona Pena, Dolores Santos, Sofia Vela, Pauline Guajardo, Francis Pena and Manuel Guajardo.
Special thanks to members of Grace Church and many others who held her in their prayers. In her later days she was extended many kind gestures of care by her Dr.’s, nurses and caregivers. She was a loyal mother and enthusiastic grandmother and great grandmother whose gifts will be treasured and deeply missed.
