Maurine Ruane Obituary

Maurine Priest Cannon Ruane, 85 of Rupert passed away March 3, 2026 at her home.  She was born September 12, 1940 to James Edwin and Levon (Toots) Whitman Priest in Shelley, Idaho but she didn’t make her entrance alone.  She had a twin brother Max and when he passed away she was mad because he came and left first.  The family moved down here when she was in Junior High and went to Declo.  She was part of the first graduating class of Minico 1958.  After graduating she took an apprentice class with a local beautician and got her beauticians license.  Maurines dad use to say “Never know what color of hair she would show up in.”  She liked giving permanents  so mom would take Marjorie every first of the school year for a permanent.  She met her husband Steve Cannon in Burley, they lived in California for a while then moved back to Tremonton, Utah where they lived for quite some time.  That is where her sons James and Steve were born.  They lived there for quite a while, before  they were divorced.  She worked various restaurant jobs as well as at Hill Air Force Base and that is where she met and married her second husband Jim Ruane.  They traveled to England and Arizona and made many lasting friendships. They were later divorced.  After the boys were raised she moved back to Rupert, Idaho.  She loved the outdoors, she liked to ride horses in her younger years.  She tried out for Rodeo Queen and met Emily Jane, they quickly became good friends.  She drove hay truck with dad in the summer, she liked to garden and While working at George K’s she got interested in karaoke.  Her sister Marjorie used to go hang out with her there and they had a good time.  She worked at McCains for a while and made lots of friends but that was not her cup of tea. She went from there to work at Minidoka Hospital and spent some of her last years working there at the cafeteria.  She is a breast cancer survivor.  After retiring she got the itch again and went to work at the Sky Line Bar.

She was preceded in death by her mom and dad, her son Steven, brothers Jimmy, Ray, and her Twin brother Max, sister Carol, Twin sisters who passed at birth, brother in law Marvin Smith, Sister in Laws Sibyl and Sherley Priest.  She is survived by her son Jimmy Cannon and his wife Charlotte of Boise, sister Betty Anderson of Bellevue, Marjorie Jensen of Heyburn, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her nieces, the Smith girls, especially Karleen for taking special care of her in her challenging health conditions the last two years of her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday April 11, 2026 at the Skyline Bar.  Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
