Maxine Doris Becker passed peacefully in her sleep on August 31, 2025, at the age of 103.
Maxine was born the eldest and only daughter of Marion and Leona Stoneking, on November 12, 1921, in Quimby, Iowa. Two brothers, Alan and Alfred, later followed.
The family lived for most of Maxine’s school years in Quimby, where she was active in basketball and played corner during high school. Her senior year the family moved to Ida Grove, which greatly saddened Maxine. She graduated from Ida Grove High School class of 1939.
Maxine married the love of her life, Leo Becker, on October 23, 1940; having met him through his many sisters. Leo enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and upon his return they settled in Cherokee, Iowa. To their marriage was blessed with 5 girls, Alice, Connie, Julie, Pat, Annie; and a son, Pete, while living in Cherokee.
In 1957 Leo was drawn for a homestead as part of the G.I. Act and the family loaded up a canvas top truck and a car and moved to Paul, Idaho, where they farmed 160 acres. While on the farm, a stillborn daughter, Susan, was born, along with another son, Brian, who rounded out the family of 8 children.
The family have many dogs while living on the farm, notably multiple German Shepards, each going by the name “Queenie”; but it was a mix named Stubby, which Maxine said, “was the best dog we ever had”.
After 24 years of farming, Maxine and Leo moved to the city proper of Paul and built a house. They enjoyed golf, bowling, both in leagues, traveling. Leo passed away in May 1989. After his passing Maxine still traveled, golfed, and played cards with the ladies. Her other hobbies included reading, sewing, crochet, playing the organ, cross stitch, gardening, doing puzzles, and spending time with her family.
Maxine was an active member of St. Nicholas Catholic church in Rupert, Id. She was also at one time employed with IB&T Bank and served on the Paul City Council.
In 2021 Maxine celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family. And her 103rd in November 2024.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Marion and Leona, Her husband Leo, and daughters, Susan, Pat, Alice, Julie. And her brothers Allen and Alfred.
She is survived by her children, Connie Becker, of Salt Lake City, UT, Annie Becker, of Livermore, CA, Pete (Kim) Becker, of Blackfoot, ID, and Brian (Carol) Becker, of Boise, ID.
Maxine was the grandmother of Eric, Ryan, Chris, Hailey, Brianna, and Josh. Also, a Great-Grandmother of 6 children.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Paul Idaho Cemetery, under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
