It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Melba LeFevre Hatch Nielson, who left us on September 4, 2024, at the age of 98. She was a woman of immense humor, unwavering faith, wisdom, and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, especially her grandchildren. Her passion for chickens, the outdoors, teaching numerous primary children, and her unwavering spirit will forever be remembered. She is survived by her 3 daughters Carolyn (Walker), KayDawn (Andersen), and Jlynn (Westlake), 12 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 28 great-great grandchildren. Two great grandsons, Tate and Derek preceded her in death. Her family will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Melba was born on July 14, 1926, to Hannah Beatrice Shakespear a Ernest Timothy Lefevre in Panguitch, Utah. She was the 6th of 8 children.

She married Harold J. Hatch on January 22, 1945, in Riverside California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple on January 22, 1986. J preceded her in death on February 21, 2001.

Not only did Melba farm with her husband J, she worked for the Minidoka County School District as a head cook until she retired. She was beloved by many students who called her Grandma Match.

After serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas, Houston mission Melba married Lee Nielson in April 2006. They lived together until Lee preceded her in death on December 12, 2018. Lee and his family were a great blessing for Melba.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to family and friends that have given kind service and friendship for so many years. Gratitude is extended to the staff of Valley Vista, Autumn Haven and Hospice Vision Comfort Care Services that helped in caring for Melba. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2024, at the Rupert West Stake Center with Bishop Brody Buck officiating. A view will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Services will conclude with Burial at the Rupert Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
