On the brisk winter morning of February 7, 2020, Naldene Rose Carnahan Penrod returned to the loving arms of her husband, family and Heavenly parents.
Beginning her long life on the 20th of February 1935 in Malta, Idaho, Naldene shared her life with her four brothers, one sister and loving parents. All preceded her in death in order to prepare for the reunion now enjoyed by her and family members throughout the generations. Naldene knew so many of her long linage by name through the love and dedication she had for genealogy work. From the volumes of ancestry information and family history to the long pedigree chart hanging in the hallway of her home for many, many years, Naldene’s passion brought family together, both here and beyond the veil. For which all will be eternally grateful.
After graduating from Raft River High School, she spent some time working in California before settling in Utah working for the IRS in Ogden. To pursue her desire for discovering her family, Naldene went to work for the genealogy library in Salt Lake City.
In early 1962 she receives a phone call from a gentleman asking her if she would like to go out for a root beer. This young man had once shot basketball hoops with her many years ago in the Malta high school gymnasium. Lawrence Owen Penrod became the spring in her step, the light in her eyes. Thus began the inseparable union that led to their temple sealing in Logan Utah on December 14, 1962 and lasted 57 years until Lawrence went home ahead of her. Six months of separation were all that were necessary before she was held by Lawrence again and forever.
Her life-long testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ is reflected in the love she has for her family and the love each feel for her. Her children always came first, long before her own desires or needs. Her acts of generosity were always freely given whether the person receiving the acts knew they needed them or not.
Naldene is survived by her children Nelda (Scott) Davis, Nampa; Laurie Penrod, Pocatello; Pam Miller, Riverton, Utah; and Eileen (Travis) Hardy, Heyburn. Grandchildren include Britni, Courtni, McKinzi, Khegan, Talin, Bayli, Rygil, Michael, Jerica, Colton, Isaac, Katelyn, and Bethany. Great grandchildren Carter and Owen. Sister-in-laws, Colleen, Janis, Laura, Sandy, and Charlene. Brother-in-laws Jerry and Roy.
Those returning home before her were parents Marion Carlos and Leola Pearl; siblings Carlos, Darrell, Merna, Glenn, Rulan and grandson Ethon Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday February 17, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Heyburn Ward chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 300 South 500 West Heyburn, Idaho with Bishop Bill Conant officiation. Viewing for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be at the Declo Idaho Cemetery.
