Neal Breshears Obituary

Neal Breshears, 88, of Rupert, passed away January 13, 2026, at his home. He was born on his family's farm in Parma, Idaho, on September 26th, 1937.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Benton and Ina Bernice, his six brothers, Cecil, David, Don, Sam, Harlan, and Philip. His son, Dr. LaVerle Eugene Breshears, and grandson, Toby Lee Reedy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Breshears. His children, Tamera (Mike) Pugh, Teresa (Jeff) Freiburger, Lisa Fargo, Kym Jolley, and Rick (Laura) Jolley. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He retired from Amalgamated Sugar in Twin Falls, Idaho, in 2000. He and his wife moved to Rupert, Idaho, where he lived at the time of his passing.

He lived his life anchored in Christ, and he finished his race in faith.

Neil Breshears was a man who loved the Lord with a steady, humble devotion. His faith was not merely spoken; it was lived. In the way he loved his family, served others, and trusted God through every season, his life reflected the quiet strength of one who walked closely with Jesus. He understood that strength comes from surrender, and that love is the greatest testimony that we leave behind.

He taught us that strength could be gentle, that showing up day after day was a form of devotion. In his stories lived history; in his silence lived peace. He believed what he lived and trusted God through every season, joyful and hard alike. He always leaned on the promise that God was always near.

He believed in showing up, in doing what was right, and loving others the way Christ taught; patiently, generously, and without condition. His life reflected grace in everyday moments, in helping hands, steady guidance, and prayers spoken softly but felt deeply. He understood that true wealth was not found in possessions, but in faithfulness, integrity, and love.

Though our hearts ache in his absence, we do not grieve without hope. We take comfort in the promise of our Savior: “ I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). We trust that he has been welcomed home, hearing the words he lived his life to honor: “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21).

He lives on in our hearts, our habits, our prayers, and in the quiet moments when we feel his guidance without needing words. His legacy is not only in what he built or provided, but in the way that he made people feel: safe, valued, and loved. Though we grieve his absence, we are forever shaped by his presence. We will miss him beyond measure. We will carry him always. And we will love him for the rest of our lives.
