Richard loved camping, riding his 4-wheeler, hunting, spending time with his family, and his grandchildren. Richard was a dad to many children and grandchildren that happened to come into his life for many years. They all loved him dearly and he loved them as well. Richard remained active with many projects and helped his daughter Rachelle paint the building for her daycare (many times). In 2010, Richard suffered a heart attack which was the start of his health issues. Even then, Richard still got out as much as possible and spent time with his family.
