Sharon Sue Thomsen Harris, a devoted wife, and mother, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024, at her home with her family by her side. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and happy personality, which brought joy to everyone around her.
Sharon was born in Rupert, Idaho, to Peter A. Thomsen and Clifrine K. Miller. As a child, she grew up in the farming community in the Rupert, Paul, Emerson area. Sharon attended Pioneer and Heyburn schools and graduated from Minico High School. She attended Ricks College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University.
Sharon was a natural-born teacher who taught in the Jackson Hole area and the majority of her career in the Minidoka County School District. She loved to teach and had an enthusiasm for helping others to learn. She was always excited to create new teaching units and try new activities with her students. She was often praised by principals and parents for her superb teaching skills and her love of her students. Sharon has touched the lives of all her students during her 39-year teaching career.
Sharon loved to spend her time outside of the classroom with her husband and her two children on their family farm. She enjoyed working in her garden and around her yard. Her favorite activity was to go on scenic road trips with her family.
Sharon was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in positions in the Nursery, Primary, and Relief Society. She had a passion for family history work and spent many years with her husband tracing family lines.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Steven Harris of Paul, Idaho; son, Sheldon Harris of Pocatello, Idaho; and daughter, Stephanie Harris of Pocatello, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and twin sister Sherry Thomsen Montgomery.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 27 at 11:00 am, at Rupert Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 10 to 10:30 prior to the service at the Hansen Mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hansen Mortuary Rupert Chapel.
