Thomas (“Tommy,” “Tom”) Edward Carpenter was born on November 11, 1956, in Rupert, Idaho. He was the son of James (“Jim”) Carpenter and Elena (Casias) Carpenter, who passed away in 2014. His longtime partner and the love of his life, Mary LaRayne Sharples, preceded him in death in 2012.
Tom worked farming north of Rupert for Ruland G. Sparks, for JR Simplot, and as an apprentice electrician for Nolan Peterson. In his 69 years, Tom lived a long, full life. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything that took him along mountain trails.
He is survived by his sister, Rosalene (Carpenter) Braune, and her husband, Robert A. Braune; nephew, Jason “Grasshopper” A. Braune; nieces, Kimberly (Braune) Fisk and her husband, Dan Fisk, and Robin (Braune) Granay and her husband, Jacob Granay; great-nieces, Cora and Harper Fisk; and great-nephew, Bennet Granay. He is also survived by his sister, Diana (Carpenter) Watkins, and her husband, Richard Watkins, and their children, Hannah, Emily, and Clare Watkins. He is further survived by his brother, James W. Carpenter, and his wife, Linda Pool, and their children, Jeramy Carpenter and Jerrica Carpenter, as well as his grandson, Remington Thomson.
Tom shared a special bond with his longtime confidant and great friend, Charles Clayton—where you found one, the other was never far behind. He was also loved and known as “Uncle Tom” by family members, including Ciara Greenwell, Jaydon Greenwell, and Danaisha Phillips.
Tom, may your next journey be your greatest adventure of all. With love from your family and friends—may the hunt never end. We love you, Tom.
