It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Veronica Tavares (52) peacefully at her Rupert home on April 23, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Veronica (born Carrillo) was born in Mexicali, Mexico, on July 15, 1973, to Gerardo Hector Carrillo and Maria Magdalena Villa, an only child. She grew up in California and Texas, having lived in El Paso for most of her early life before moving to Australia, then Canada. She moved to Rupert in April 2023.
She is survived by her loving husband Kevin Tavares, daughter Elianna (27), two sons Enrique (30) and Eneas (18), her mother Maria Villa, her father Gerardo Carrillo, mother-in-law Michelle Tavares, father-in-law Paul Tavares and many extended family and friends.
Throughout her life, Veronica was kind, resilient and dedicated to the people and causes she cared most about, and above all, her family. She was an inquisitive soul both spiritually and academically, always driven to research and question what she understood or was presented, and open to new paradigms. Her interest and appreciation of arts and culture were often expressed through her beautiful paintings and flair for decorating. Her art brought a lot of color and joy into people’s lives.
The family would like to thank the medical teams at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah who provided professional, compassionate care to ensure she could enjoy to her utmost, the remaining months of life that she was gifted by the Creator. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the University of Utah Hospital Huntsman Cancer Institute (https://give.huntsmancancer.org/page/71762/donate/1) or a charity of their choice in honor of her memory.
Cremation has taken place and as per Veronica’s wishes, no memorial will be held. Veronica will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward.
