W. Gary Schorzman Obituary

 

Our beloved William “Gary” Schorzman, 82 of Rupert  passed away on the family farm. He was born in Rupert, Idaho to William R. “Bill” and Margaret L Gillis  Schorzman, Gary was the eldest of three siblings, his sister Connie and brother Norman. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Toni Thomas, Bryon Ulrich, Rob, Rick, and Bill Schorzman, and many cousins with whom he maintained close relationships. 

Gary is an accomplished writer and local historian and has contributed to Rupert, Minidoka County and Southern Idaho in a large way by compiling his books filled with local history written about the history of Rupert, original families that homesteaded and the surrounding towns, schools and history. He was honored in 2006 as Grand Marshall of the Rupert 4th of July Prade and Celebration.

He served as President of Minidoka County Museum / Historical Society and was the superintendent of the antique building for 20+ years at the Minidoka County Fair.

Gary also published  Schorzman family history, he traveled to Ukraine to research, meet relatives and homesteads these experiences add to his knowledge and understanding of our area.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday July 1, 2024 at the Rupert Square Gazebo amid the Rupert 4th of July Celebration. A special thanks is extended to all those assisting with Garys passing and the Rupert 4th of July committee for allowing this Celebration to occur at such a special time for our small town which Gary so deeply loved. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
