Edna Geraldene “Gerry” Ashment Chugg was born on December 13, 1937 in Afton, Wyoming to Cecil Delbert Ashment and Velma Jesse Weeks. She was born strong willed, determined, caring, and a good listener. These personality traits were given to her to survive this life, and are evident in her many challenges. She used them to live and grow here on earth.  She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church. Her family lived on her Grandpa Ashment’s farm where Cecil grew hay and grain. He also worked at the dam. For the first 5 years of her life, she was an only child. Then her two brothers, Darwin (Sandy) Ashment (now of Salt Lake City, UT) and Howard (Suzi) Ashment (now of Gilbert, AZ) joined her.

Her favorite thing to do was to run up and down the hills of Star Valley Wyoming. She rode horses, gathered flowers, and loved seeing the changing leaves in the fall. Gerry later took her young children on road trips to Wyoming during many Fall Seasons just to see the leaves change.

Gerry went to Rick’s College and enrolled in a pre-nursing program.  Later she transferred to Logan Regional Nursing Program, but she didn’t finish the program. It was difficult for her to see so many ill people. Gerry met Duard Boyd Chugg while in college.  They married on July 11, 1958, and moved to Rupert, Idaho. They had five children Craig, Ann, Guy, Jayne, and Lance.  When Boyd began to farm, Gerry went back to college to become a teacher.  Later Gerry and Boyd divorced, and Gerry moved to Twin Falls, ID. She taught ESL students at the College of Southern Idaho for almost 20 years.

Gerry was noted for being a good listener. She would listen to you download troubles and in her early days call you back within 5 to 10 minutes with a solution. She learned later just to let us download.  She also loved sharing her stories of growing up in Wyoming.

In 2005, Gerry moved to Arizona to be close to Lance. Lance and his family assisted and spent time with her.  When he moved to Tennessee, Gerry moved to Logan to live with Jayne. Her family enjoyed visiting with her. Sometimes they would just talk and other times she would share stories. She stayed there until health issues warranted higher care.

Gerry resided in Rocky Mountain Care Center in Logan, Utah for 2 ½ years. During that time, family called and visited her. She struggled with many health issues over the years. At 3 PM on Friday, February 3, 2023 she returned to her loving Heavenly Father.  She was welcomed by her son Craig Duard Chugg and his wife Diane Greer Chugg, her grandson Richard Jensen, her parents, grandparents and loving ancestors.

She is survived by her children: Ann (Gil) Dickinson of Westminster, CO; Guy (Jennifer) Chugg of Salt Lake City, UT; Jayne (Mark) Jensen of Las Vegas, NV, and Lance (Cristina) Chugg of Knoxville, TN.  She had many  grandchildren and great grandchildren: Shannon (Jakob) Stalbur and daughters Hannah and Harper; Gillian, Riley and Morgan Chugg; Jeremy (Tammy) Jensen and children Megan, Caleb, Joshua, Jacob, Jonathan and Peter; Cherie (Cristian)  Naranjo and children Tiegan, Raiden, Izaiah, Rhyder, Izabella; Keith (Brittany) Jensen and children Adalynne and Gwendalyn; Sarah (Preston Cooper) Chee, Anne-Marie Chugg, Hailee (Logan) Burris, and Mason, Samuel, Adele and Sophie Chugg.
