Randy Arvil Hanshew

Randy Arvil Hanshew, a 71-year-old Rupert resident, passed away on July 28, 2022 outside of McCall, Idaho.  Randy was born September 22, 1950 in Twin Falls, Idaho and was one of three children born to Arvil Frank Hanshew and Marilyn Lucille Phillips.  Randy moved with his parents when he was 2 years old to Rupert, Idaho.

He graduated from Minico High School in 1968 and attended College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.  Randy grew up in Rupert and spent many years of his adult life in McCall and Riggins, Idaho and the Mini-Cassia area.  He worked as a lineman for Idaho Power, worked as a logger, owned a tree topping business in McCall and Rupert and farmed in the Mini Cassia area. 

Randy was an accomplished skier and served as a ski instructor for Magic Mountain Ski Area and Pomerelle Mountain Resort.  He also enjoyed camping, motorcycle and ATV trail riding, white water rafting, hunting and participated for years in local antique tractor pulls.  Randy was a member of the Rupert Elks Club.  

Randy always had a zest for life and had a very keen sense of humor that could make anyone laugh.  He adored his family and loved spending time with them camping, rafting, and skiing.

Randy is survived by his three daughters, Stephanie Charles, (Brian) McCall, ID, Heidi Shields, Nampa, ID, Heathyr Hanshew, Meridian, ID, five grandchildren, Logan and Khloe Kleint , Zack and Madison Shields and Bayley Franklin, 2 great grandchildren, sister Sherri Hanshew Anderson Savannah, GA, step sisters, Louise Rasmussen and Robyn Hardman Albuquerque, NM, Pam Hardman, Tigard, OR, Ginger Crowl, Palm Desert, CA and step mother Altha (Mac) Hanshew, Portland, OR as well as many nieces and nephews.

Randy is preceded in death by his parents, brother Steven Hanshew, stepfather Vernon Callan Phillips, stepbrother Randy Phillips, and stepsisters Joan Phillips, Jamie Rasmussen, and Janet Phillips.

There will be two celebrations of life for Randy.  On August 20th at 4pm at the Rupert’s Elks Lodge. The McCall, Idaho date and time celebration TBD.  Bring your stories, laughs and let’s raise a toast to Randy!
