Sam Rigby Obituary

Sam Aaron Rigby, 21, passed away Monday October 23, 2023 near his life-long home in Sublett, Idaho. He was born on February 15, 2002 to Tony and Ria Rigby in Burley, Idaho (a birthday he shared with his Grandpa Wall.) He was the youngest of the family, after his older sister Tosha and older brother Riley. He attended grades K-12 in Malta at Raft River schools.

He loved fishing and hunting and was always ready to go with anyone at any time. He loved playing in the dirt and being outside. He loved his boots and wore them everywhere he could. Sam enjoyed building things out of wood and constructed a few cabinets in our home. He loved to work!! He loved farm work. He always had a job and worked hard driving tractors, trucks, fencing, or doing just about anything that needed done. One of his favorite activities was to go to the mountains and cut firewood. He was always chopping wood. He raised 4-H and FFA pigs at the Cassia County Fair, and in 2013 his pig won Grand Champion in animal quality.

He enjoyed weightlifting and met his goal to bench press 250 lbs. in high school. He played defensive end in football, jersey number 55. Sam participated in the first year the trap club was offered at RRHS. He loved the Ag program and especially the welding. He spent many hours fabricating things both at the shop and at home. He graduated from Raft River High School, class of 2020 with his classmates and friends during the pandemic.

Sam was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in every calling and assignment he was given. In January 2021-January 2023, he served as Elder Rigby in the Fresno, California mission. He had a strong testimony in his Savior Jesus Christ. He was a great example of studying his scriptures, going to the temple, and helping others.

He was a friend to all and had a quiet, easygoing personality. He always wanted to improve himself. He is loved so very much and will be immensely missed by so many.

Sam was proceeded in death by his grandparents Jeanette and “Jim” (Fredrick James) Rigby. He is survived by his parents Tony and Ria Rigby, his sister Tosha (Greg) Darrington, his brother Riley Rigby, his grandparents Larry and Diana Wall, and many special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

We would like to thank our entire community of friends, family, neighbors, and church goers for supporting us during our time of need.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honor of Sam to the Trap Club or the Ag/Welding programs at Raft River High School.
