Jennifer Stephanie Eloise Shortt Bingham passed away at Highland Estates in Burley on Monday February 29, 2016. She was 71 years old.
Jennifer was born on November 18, 1944 in Twin Falls, Idaho. She spent most of her childhood in Shoshone, Idaho and later moved to Rupert. She graduated with honors from Minico High School in May of 1963. During high school, she played the clarinet in band, was on the yearbook staff, and won the Best Typist of the Year award.
She went to Ricks College for a year, and later took a few classes at the University of Idaho. She married Marvin Bingham in June of 1966 in the Idaho Falls Temple. She worked as a bookkeeper and teller at First Security Bank in both Rupert & Moscow, Idaho. She had a variety of other jobs as well.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities including: primary chorister, helping with plays, dinners, and other programs, and teaching various classes. She was a room mother, volunteer, and PTA member while her children were in grade school. She later became a substitute teacher for Minidoka County elementary schools. This led to jobs in various teacher aide positions, including that of teaching the music at Acequia Elementary School for several years. Jennifer was especially good with young children, so these jobs were a perfect match for her talents.
Jennifer enjoyed a variety of crafts and was always sewing or working on some other project. She played the piano as well. She enjoyed working in her large yard and loved to learn about gardening and to share starts and flowers from her yard with others. She often entered flower arrangements in the fair and won the Judge's Choice Award in 1987. She joined the Minidoka County Historical Society and helped with their quilting group and other projects. She assisted her husband as a 4-H Leader and while he was the Swine Superintendent at the Minidoka County Fair. She later served at the Photography Superintendent as well.
Jennifer is survived by her two children: Amy (Aaron) Larson of Burley, Idaho and Joe Bingham of Post Falls, Idaho, her sister Victoria and brother Bill, and her grandchildren: Lance, Tasha, Charlene, and Melissa Bingham.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her parents, and two of her sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Estates for taking care of Jennifer these past few years as she struggled with Alzheimer's disease. They would also like to thank those who made the effort to go visit her during her time there.
