We love because he first loved us.
(1 John 4:19)
Moises Garcia, husband, father and grandfather, died while recouping from a recent illness, Friday, December 23, 2016 in Caldwell, Idaho.
Moises was born on September 6, 1937 in the town of Cedral, SLP, Mexico to his parents,Teodoro and Refugio Garcia. He spent his childhood and early teenage years in Mexico, before immigrating to the U.S. The first few years in the U.S. were spent in Texas, where he developed a certain amount of disdain for the Dallas Cowboys, which became a point of contention between him and various friends and family members. Moises, along with his parents and siblings moved to Idaho where they became migrant farm workers. As a young man, he contributed to the family's welfare, which allowed his younger siblings to remain in school and graduate high school.
The family soon settled down. Moises worked for several local business, including Simplot's and Ore-Ida/McCains. It was during this time that he met and married Maria Quilantan. They had 4 boys, Moises Garcia Jr.(1) , Rafael Garcia, Moises Garcia Jr (2), and Michael Garcia. The years that followed Moises marriage were tumultuous with loss, grief and sadness, however they never tempered his need to provide his sons adventure and a joy of life. He enjoyed the company of many lifelong friends along with his family. In his later years he moved to Homedale, Idaho to be closer to his grandchildren. This is where he met and married Erminia Rodriguez. Unfortunately, these later years found Moises battling numerous ailments including
cancer. Erminia provided him with a strength and support to continue living.
Moises was an avid outdoorsman. He had a passion for fishing, hunting and camping that he shared with a couple of his sons. Predawn would find Moises getting ready to meet friends to hunt or fish, usually with one or two sons in tow. Moises loved sports, a love that he fostered in two of three sons. He coached and played in a local men's softball league for years. He also had great success at coaching a Babe Ruth league team. Moises loved to laugh, listen to music and tell stories. His cooking skills were legendary. Relaxing outside with a drink and a cigar was the quintessential end to a good day.
Moises was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Moises Garcia Jr (1) who died when he was 4 years old and Rafael Garcia often referred to as the Saint, four siblings including Abe Garcia. He is survived by his wife Erminia, his sons Moises Garcia Jr (2) and Michael Garcia (Raquel), 4 grandchildren Erika Garcia, Michael Garcia Jr, Jacob Garcia and Yazmin Garcia, and his siblings Juan Garcia, Elvia Gabiola, Ted Garcia, Chon Garcia, Dan Garcia, David Garcia, Abel Garcia, Sam Garcia and Esther Rose.
