George Cruz Barrera 6-15-35 7-28-15
George Cruz Barrera of Paul, Idaho passed away of a massive heart attack at age 80 on July 28, 2015. "Yea though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I will not fear". He was born in Rio Grande City, Texas, to Baltazar and Adelfina Barrera. He was the oldest of six: Salome and Gustavo of Escobares, Texas, Advento of Garceno, Texas, Ramiro of McAllen, Texas, Isabel Barrera Gonzales of Houston, Texas and Esperanza Barrera Padilla of Odessa, Texas. He met the love of his life Julia Flores in McAllen, Texas. They married in 1954 and began their life legacy.
He was the epitome of Mathew 19:5 "For this reason a man shall leave his parents, cling unto his wife and the two shall become one". Through the years, "his quiver became full of arrows". He was preceded in death by his son John George Barrera. He is survived by Joe Raymond (Yoli) Barrera of San Angelo, Texas, Ruben Dan Barrera of Boise, Idaho, Roy (Christine) Barrera of Boise, Idaho. Shelly (Eddie) Rodriquez of Salt lake City, Utah, Mary Barrera of Salt Lake City, Utah, Robert Barrera of Paul, Idaho, Lisa (Luis) Holquin- Barrera of San Antonio, Texas.
George and Julia had a total of 25 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, most recently Eliana Rose Barrera-Lopez born July 24, 2015. He loved Idaho and the "Barrera Ranch", as he called it. He was an Apostolic Church member, where he loved to sing every Sunday. He retired from Ore-Ida foods after more than thirty five years of employment. He kept in contact with many friends and his family, whom he just adored. After Julia passed in 2008, George traveled frequently to see his family in Texas. He and Robert loved to travel and had many memorable adventures during those travels. He loved to garden and to sit under the trees near the front yard water fountain. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Julia Flores Barrera. Rest in Peace Dad, you are a man of great wisdom, honor and praise to our Savior Jesus Christ.
Many thanks to his earthly physician Dr Liliana Saunero-Nava and to EMT Minidoka Memorial Hospital EMT Travis Chandler, who helped administer C.P.R.
